My favorite project during this semester in Com.210
had to be the final video project. I loved
going out and getting footage of bug because my topic was nature. I thought it
was really fun and I enjoyed gathering footage, even if I did look weird doing
it. I also thought that premiere was the easiest adobe program to use. I liked
it the most and everything like the tools, were pretty easy to find and it wasn’t
too confusing unlike some of the other adobe programs.
I learned many skills while being enrolled in
this class. The thing that I think I will take out of it and benefit the most
was video editing and learning how to make videos for YouTube. Lots of
companies require people to edit videos so I think that is an important thing
that I learned from this class and I’m glad I did.
I am majoring in sports management and I think
creating and editing videos is super important when it comes to those types of
jobs. I think editing and making flyers and logos is really important to and
could apply to sports management when it comes to recreational and intramural
sports.
I do wish that I learned how to use adobe after effects
in this class. I see all these really cool videos on YouTube and social media
that were made with adobe after effects and I really wished we got to use that
in this class. Other than that, I don’t really have any other skills that I can
think of.
I found that creativecommons.org was useful for
finding music that was free to use. I used it every time to find my music for
my videos and I knew I wasn’t violating any copyright rules because I always
had that website.
Overall, I had a lot of fun with this class and I
learned a lot about content creation and video creation. I am glad that I got
to learn to do some of the things I did and I will use these skills to help
benefit me in my future career. Go Cougs!
For the final draft for this video, I designed it after the Planet Earth videos. I thought it was a
cool idea since my topic is nature and I have always loved shows like that. I also
thought it was unique and I could not picture other members of the class doing
a video like this, so I thought why don’t I do it? At first, I thought I was going
to have narration in the back, but I recorded myself talking but I liked the
video with music better instead of my voice. On my first draft, I didn’t have
any audio, but after the group feedback assignment, I looked over the comments
from my group and a couple of them said that I should add music. So I added the
music and I am really glad on how my final video turned out. I found the music
on creativecommons.org from fugue music, so I knew it was okay to use and I wasn’t
breaking any copyright rules.
I think that I did a good job getting footage of the bugs. Finding bugs is more complicated than I thought, and I am very glad about the footage I captured for this video. I recorded the footage from my iPhone 10, which has a great camera. I think the quality of footage is more important than the quantity and I would take nice clear footage over more footage with not as good quality, any day. When editing this video, premiere was pretty simple to use. I used the razor tool to cut clips shorter and put them where they fit. When coming up with the title of this video, the movie A Bugs Life had a major influence on my decision. I was kind of doing a realistic video of that movie and I thought The Life of Bugs was a great and fitting title. Overall, I am extremely proud about how this video turned out and I hope everyone who watches it, enjoys it just as I did.
My design inspiration for this video came from my love for nature. I love being outdoors and seeing all the different types of creatures this world has to offer. I am especially interested in bugs. There are countless bugs all over the world and many of them are very extraordinary, so I decided to go searching for bugs outside my house. It is very interesting to see what insects there are in Pullman. I looked very strange recording bugs for minutes on end, but I think it was worth it and I think I caught some quality footage.
I am not completely finished with my video. I still need to edit some bits in and out and clean it up a little bit. I also have to add music and narration to go along with the video, so it has some noise and direction. I have a couple ideas for audio. The first being just music in the background. The second is just narration, and lastly, I combine both music and narration for a “Planet Earth” like video, which I think would be super cool. I also still have some more footage to capture. I am going to try to go somewhere else and record more footage to see if I can find some unique species of bugs and insects. I think if I had more footage of different bugs, it could make the video a lot better. Another thing I could improve on is taking more wider shots. I have a lot of close up shots that are really nice, but if I add some wider shots, I think it could make my video that much better.
For my final audio mixdown I got my idea form my topic. My idea was to do an interview about nature, but I didn’t know what to do at first. What would I talk about? so I went over my options and I finally decided on pollution. I chose pollution because it is a big problem in the world we live in today and I thought it would be a good idea to talk about it in the interview. I love watching nature shows and they always talk about how pollution is killing the environments of all sorts of species and I’m a big snorkeling fan and it makes me sad to see coral reefs destroyed. So, I decided to interview my friend Austin on the topic. I came up with the questions I wanted to ask and we recorded with an app on my phone. I uploaded everything on audition and then edited them all into place and erased some mistakes. Once we did group feedback, I realized I should have added something more besides our voices, so I added a little bit of sound that I found on a free to use website on creativecommons.org, so I didn’t break any copyright rules. It sounded so much better with the extra sounds at the beginning and the end and made it that much more fluent. After I edited in the sounds, I cut the clip to my wants and also cut out a mistake that I didn’t catch in the draft before. I am very happy on how my interview turned out and I hope that it helps people realize that pollution is a real problem and that we need to change our ways or our world will die, and if our world dies, so does humanity and all the beautiful creatures that live on it.
My idea for this audio track came from my topic, nature, but isn’t nature, my topic was pollution, which destroys nature. Pollution is a very serious problem today in 2019, and if we don’t get it under control, our earth will die. And if the Earth dies, we die with it. It isn’t that hard not to pollute, just recycle every once in a while, and don’t litter. Clean up after yourself like a responsible human being would. I thought that making a interview about pollution would help people realize that this is an everyday problem that can’t be fixed over night. It is a problem that our world leaders need to emphasize more and the people need to be vocal and do something about it. This audio wasn’t hard to edit, I just used some tools like the eraser that erased the parts I didn’t want. I also merged the two audio parts and made them connect so they sounded fluent and nice. For my future draft, I think I might add some music at the beginning and the end because intro and ending music will sound nicer and there wont just be two people talking, there will be some background music. Both of the audio footage I used was my own, I recorded it by myself, so I didn’t have to worry about copyright problems or stealing other peoples work. If we want this earth to last, we need to put a cap on pollution and start trying to clean up our earth. because if we don’t clean up our earth, all the creatures on this earth will die because of global warming and all the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. There are a lot of problems, but we can only manage to fix this pollution problem on step at a time, in hope for a greener and cleaner earth.
In my interview, I interview my friend Austin about the pollution problem in the world and what are some ways we can do to fix this never ending problem.
The initial design of my logo was a very simplistic version
of my final logo. In my first one, I just had the earth and the banner, I didn’t
have a background or any more designs. After my group and instructor feedback, I
decided to add some more details to my logo. My group members also said I should
add more details and make backgrounds so I started brainstorming on what I should
add. A background was necessary because it was so plain with the white, bland background.
I decided to add a black background and it made everything pop and look more
professional.
Another thing I added
was a shield design behind my earth and banner. This made it actually seem like
a logo. I see car logos all the time and some of them have a shield logo, so I thought
it might make it look classier and more professional if I added a shield logo
behind everything. I also gave the shield a stroke around it and I increased
the stroke until I thought it looked good enough. I made the stroke green so it
would look nicer with the green in the earth and the banner. The shield itself
is grey and at first I tried white, and it didn’t look good and I thought grey
was a nice mixture of the dark and light colors.
Lastly, my instructor advised me that I should change the font, because some of the fonts don’t look as professional as others, so I changed it to a better, crisper font. I think the new font looks way nicer than it did before and has more of an elegant look to it. Overall, I am glad on how my logo turned out and in my eyes I think it looks great and it represents a good cause, to raise awareness of how we are treating our one and only planet we call home.
I chose to design this logo the way I
did because I think it is a great logo for an important day of the year,
Earth Day. I think that this logo could help spread awareness and teach people
and help them realize that we only have one earth, and if we keep treating it
the way we are, we will destroy that earth and our one and only home. It is a
simple logo that could make a big impact, and it kind of has a cartoon feel to
it so it can be a logo for both children and adults. I chose to make the earth
because it was pretty easy to make the perfect circle shape in photoshop. It was
a little more difficult to make the continents on the earth but in the end, I think
the earth I made looks pretty good. I think the banner was a nice touch and it was
also easy to make because I knew how to make it from the illustrator tutorial. It
looks really well with the arch above the earth.
I have a lot of cool ideas that I could add to my future draft it would just take a little more work and time. This draft is a good start though, and for its simplicity, it looks great. This logo can also be used for a good cause, to help spread awareness about the earth. I did not use any online pictures or anyone else’s work for this draft, I completed it entirely from the image I saw in my head so I don’t need to include any credit from other creators or authors. I am aware that I might need to add a little more to the logo but I think it’s a good starting point and has a solid foundation to grow off of.
