The Life of Bugs Draft

My design inspiration for this video came from my love for nature. I love being outdoors and seeing all the different types of creatures this world has to offer. I am especially interested in bugs. There are countless bugs all over the world and many of them are very extraordinary, so I decided to go searching for bugs outside my house. It is very interesting to see what insects there are in Pullman. I looked very strange recording bugs for minutes on end, but I think it was worth it and I think I caught some quality footage.

I am not completely finished with my video. I still need to edit some bits in and out and clean it up a little bit. I also have to add music and narration to go along with the video, so it has some noise and direction. I have a couple ideas for audio. The first being just music in the background. The second is just narration, and lastly, I combine both music and narration for a “Planet Earth” like video, which I think would be super cool. I also still have some more footage to capture. I am going to try to go somewhere else and record more footage to see if I can find some unique species of bugs and insects. I think if I had more footage of different bugs, it could make the video a lot better. Another thing I could improve on is taking more wider shots. I have a lot of close up shots that are really nice, but if I add some wider shots, I think it could make my video that much better.

  1. Hello Bridger! Your video topic is so interesting and different. Your footage looks great quality so props to you! The lighting is nice since you are outdoors and the insects featured are quite clear. I see that you mentioned adding in a wider shot, like an establishing shot, and I think that would be a great addition to your video. Being able to see the whole setting and location would show the audience more of where you are and where these types of insects and mini ecosystems are in our community. I do agree that you need some sort of audio going on as well. A soft calm Creative Commons track playing in the background would be nice. Some narration would be a cool addition, but I don’t necessarily think it is completely needed. Again, your focus for your video project is so interesting and I think you have a great start to the final product!

  2. First off I want to say I think your film skills are pretty great. I have no clue how you even managed to get some of these angles and I have clue where you even found these bugs. A critique I would have is maybe having a title slide before the bugs are switched out. I think if you added that it would give the audience a better understanding of what they are looking at. Also I am kind of confused on what your theme is. I think you did really well at filming and editing and these really were the strong points of your film. Another critique I would have is something you alluded to in your description about having an audio component with your final project.I think adding audio would really help the video overall whether you pick music or a voiceover. I think once you add these features your final project will turn out great.
